From Social Value to Real Impact: How construction firms can engage underrepresented communities

04 February 2026 | 11:00 to 12:30
Location: Sibinet, Unit 6, 36a Windmill Lane, Smethwick, West Midlands, B66 3EU

Social, Cultural & Diversity

This session explores how construction companies can deliver meaningful and measurable social value by engaging with underrepresented communities and tapping into overlooked talent across the West Midlands.

Despite significant investment and regeneration across the region, many individuals, particularly young people from ethnic minority and disadvantaged backgrounds, remain disconnected from opportunities in the construction sector.

This event brings together contractors, developers, recruiters, educators and community organisations to share practical approaches to bridging this gap. This session will be led by Muhammad Sibi, Director of SibiNet, who will share insights into some of the successful social value initiatives SibiNet has delivered across the region.

Attendees will gain insight into effective engagement models, including early intervention programmes, community-led pathways, and employer-supported training that prepares candidates for work readiness.

The session will also highlight best practice from across the sector, showcasing how companies can meet their S106 and social value commitments while strengthening their workforce pipeline.

There will be dedicated time for Q&A and networking, giving attendees the opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practice and build meaningful partnerships.
